神奇莫测阎道人

中兴茅山乾元观的明代高道阎希言,一生颇多神奇莫测。同时代文人,南京大理寺卿陈文烛为撰碑文《乾元观记》现存乾元观内;文坛盟主后七子之首,南京刑部尚书王世贞为其立传《阎道人希言传》收《四库全书》,即碑文所谓:“其徒李合坤既请王元美大司寇赞而传之。”王世贞字元美。大司寇,刑部尚书别称。康熙版《茅山志》卷九《阎道人》,系笪重光据王世贞《传》的节录本。见于其它地方志中的阎道人叙述,其源不至超出王《传》范畴。

阎道人云游四方,不修边幅,不戴道巾,不疏发髻,博得阎蓬头雅号。穿粗布夹衫而无衬衣,着鞋而无袜,体重三百斤,其大腹便便形象可以想象。然而行动敏捷,胜于少壮。盛夏赤膊于烈日不流汗,隆冬凿冰而浴不惧寒,最不可思议的是,让人积尿缸中以尿洗澡,浴后任其自干而不觉臊臭。喜饮酒,量不大,酒酣则放歌道情,自娱娱人,外出常有孩童雀噪相随。问道人百岁他应之,问二百岁他也应之,责道人不过六十何骗人,他应之无以测也。从不与人谈及个人历史。向其求教延年冲举之术却不应,惟劝人行阴骘,广施予,勿淫勿杀、勿恚勿忧,勿多思而已。他教导徒众;心无不存谓之照,欲无不泯渭之忘。又曰: 喜中知止则不喜,怒中回思则不怒。能咬此二语,便入忘境。

阎道人能名垂青史,功在修复茅山乾元观,道人初到乾元观,于观左右栽植桃杏,春季花开,满山锦绣。又引山泉灌溉水田,年获稻米三、四十石。当时道观仅存山门丙舍,阎道人游说金陵诸多公卿名士,如李同寇、王中丞、王鸿胪等权贵,赢得达官贵人赞助,修复了乾元观中殿堂楼阁,成就了一番道业。

阎道人与王世贞交往颇多。王太仓人也,太仓名园?山园乃王氏私家园林。甲申1584之冬,道人途经?山园,王世贞设宴款待,席间道人坦陈家史;自言山西人,二十七、八经商自给,有家室,纵欲患病几死,遇师诲之坐功得以康复,后弃家学道。其时盖在嘉靖乙未、丙申间。王世贞觉得“道人漫应人多矣,安知不复漫谓我,我姑漫应之,相与失笑而别。”且为道人测算、二十七、八岁在嘉靖乙未、丙申1535~1536间,道人生于1508年,万历十六年1588仙化,道人高寿八十,确可信也。

万历十六年,阎道人拜访王世贞,以“大檀越相拟”,意在请王撰文写传,王逗道人;写道观不写道人行吗阎道人直言: 怎可不写道人,我实仰慕先生文采,先生也早悉于我。后数日一往,问文成否,得知未成,心颇不快,使其徒相促。王世贞怪其何至于此,原来道人与众多茅山高道宗师相似,预感天庭召唤。

阎道人升仙更显神奇,沐浴三番,移枕坐地,说道人不当卧床,跌坐不僵,十月犹暖,气色安闲,汗沾胡须如珠,入龛后,移入乾元观,时时启龛视之,百日犹若生时。

王世贞《阎道人希言传》总结其一生:“道人游行人间者五十余年,灼然著声者垂四十年。出无恒向,诣无恒主,宿无恒夕,忽然而来,忽然而去;无往为主,无恋为本,无相为宗。其真有道者耶”由王公此论可见希言道人崇尚无为,但他一生功绩道业在于修复中兴乾元观,又岂是仅仅无为而治能成就么他不得不游说于官场,求助于权贵贤达施舍。道人临终徒众求遗教:“穷理尽性,以至于命。齐家治国平天下。”典型的儒家风范,请文人立传留名,也属“有为”之举。阎道人令人神奇莫测。

《乾元观记》文末写道:“希言深于《易》者也,儒而道,道而仙,吾安能窥其际哉。”大法官陈文烛尚不能观其全貌,数百年后当今道人,就更难理解,只有望其项背耳。

希言道人留给后辈的启迪在于,学道修道的一生,并不在于终生无为,道业的需要,应当毫无愧色地有为而作,创造道家业绩。
